After moving from Panama in 2005, Maria started her photographic career in Georgia where she received her B.F.A. in photography in the Savannah College of Art and Design. There she assisted acclaimed wedding photojournalist Lyn Bonham and then interned with editorial and travel photographer Imke Lass. In 2006 she took the summer to intern as assistant photographer for Panama’s Presidential Palace.
